Established in 1982 as the Hoover Marketing Awards, the Australian Marketing Institute Awards for Marketing Excellence have become one of the biggest events on the Australian marketing calendar. For 39 years, the AMI Awards have celebrated individuals and organisations who have achieved extraordinary success from innovative and effective marketing practices.

The AMI Awards have evolved over the years in response to new development theory and practice to reflect the growing appreciation of the critical role of marketing as the vital source of value creation for a business. This year, there are 18 standard categories and 7 special categories covering areas from Brand Revitalisation, Customer Experience and Marketing Team of the Year to Campaign of the Year.

Entry in all categories is open to all organisations regardless of the industry or sector you operate in. Rather than offering industry specific categories, entrants are encouraged to enter award categories most relevant to the nature of their entry.

The annual Australian Marketing Institute Awards for Marketing Excellence are presented to organisations and marketers who have achieved excellence and success from innovative and effective marketing.

The Awards have evolved over the years in response to new developments in marketing theory and practice. These reflect the growing appreciation of the critical role of marketing as a vital source of value creation.


Entries are invited from all persons and organisations irrespective of turnover, industry or location. The entry must have been active within the period of 1 January 2018 to 30 April 2019.

Applications submitted for work prepared for a client or by a third party must be authorised by that party – click here to download the Client Authorisation Form. Awards will be presented to the organisation or person named in the entry form.

Entry Cost

A late fee of $125 (inc GST) will apply to entries paid after 30th April 2019.

AMI Member – $390 (inc GST)
*Includes a complimentary ticket per entry to the State based finalist event
Non Member – $650 (inc GST)
*Includes one 6 month complimentary Affiliate AMI Membership per entry

Early bird is available for submissions paid on or before 15th March 2019
Early Bird AMI Member – $300 (inc GST)
*Includes a complimentary ticket per entry to the State based finalist event
Early Bird Non Member – $531 (inc GST)
*Includes one 6 month complimentary Affiliate AMI Membership per entry

To take advantage of the early bird offer you will need to submit your award entry but there is still time to perfect your submission! You will be able to make changes to your entry until the 30th April 2019.
We recommend putting place holders in your submission to take advantage of early bird, just don’t forget to put real information in your entry before entries close.

Category Entries

Categories are open to both B2C and B2B entrants. Judges will consider the merits of each entry taking into consideration that metrics and success factors differ between B2C and B2B marketing programs. Judges will consider the linkage between strategy, execution and outcomes achieved.

Each nomination will be judged against the following criteria – for all categories:

  • The extent to which the person, team or project has reflected the intent expressed in the category descriptor
  • That entries show a clear alignment between the situational analysis, strategy, actions undertaken and outcomes achieved (against set goals and objectives). Judges will allocate scores across these dimensions.
  • Evidence of commercial benefits to business and/or social impact; return on marketing expenditure and/or degree of social change
  • Action-ability of results, including clarity of recommendations, relevance and feasibility of marketing initiatives

The Issue – 10%
maximum 200 words

The Solution – 40%
maximum 1000 words

The Result – 40%
maximum 750 words

  • Craft your entry based on the weighting guide and category requirements
  • Upload your organisations logo and campaign image
  • Upload any additional links, graphics or documents to support your entry
  • Complete the details of who will be collecting the award if you win
  • Complete information for trophy/certificate
  • Submit Client Authorisation Form (if applicable)
  • Review your entry
  • Submit – make payment to ensure your entry will be judged
  • You will still be able to amend your entry until 30 April 2019

State Finalist Events

State events will be held throughout July and August to announce the national finalists for each state, state winners will be announced at the National Awards Gala on the 16th October 2019.

Awards Ceremony

A ceremony will be held prior to the National Gala Dinner held at Pullman on the Park Melbourne to announce and award the winners of each of the 18 categories. This will include the winners of the categories in each state – the state with the national winner will not have a State Winner.

Awarding of certificates and trophies will be as follows:

  • Finalists – digital certificate
  • State Winners – trophy
  • Category Winner – trophy
  • Life Members – certificate
  • CMO of the Year, CPM of the Year, Sir Charles McGrath, Future Leader of the Year – certificate
  • Marketing Team of the Year, Best Marketing Agency, Campaign of the Year – trophy

Please note that there will only be National Winners for the Special Awards.
