Submissions for the 2021 AMI Awards open on Tuesday, 2 February.
Established in 1982 as the Hoover Marketing Awards, the AMI Awards for Marketing Excellence have become one of the biggest programs on the Australian marketing calendar. For 40 years, the Awards have been providing an opportunity to celebrate individuals and organisations who have achieved extraordinary success from innovative and effective marketing practices.
The Awards are now part of the Marketing Excellence Showcase Program, a year-long Program which provides an exlusive opportunity to celebrate excellence in marketing across the country throughout the year.
MARKETERS
Submissions are open to all individuals, agencies and organisations regardless of the industry or sector you operate in. Rather than offering industry specific categories, entrants are encouraged to enter award categories most relevant to the nature of their entry.

2021 AWARDS RULES AND ELIGIBILITY
The profession of marketing is evolving rapidly.
As your industry body, our vision is to help our members keep up, be successful and demonstrate the strategic power that marketing plays in the business world today. The annual Australian Marketing Institute’s Awards for Marketing Excellence are presented to organisations and marketers who have achieved excellence and success from innovative and effective marketing.
As the most established and respected Marketing Awards in Australia, the AMI Marketing Excellence Showcase provides the opportunity to promote, experience, recognise and celebrate excellence in the marketing community.
The AMI Awards is part of the 2021 AMI Marketing Excellence Showcase, the program which aims to experience, promote, recognise and celebrate excellence in marketing practice.
ELIGIBILITY
Submissions are invited from individuals and organisations irrespective of turnover or industry, unless otherwise specified. Submissions are accepted from individuals and organisations operating within the APAC region or marketing campaigns executed for the region.
The entry must have been active within the period of 1 January 2020 to 30 April 2021.

Awards will be presented to the organisation or person named in the entry form.

To take advantage of the early bird offer you will need to submit your award entry but there is still time to perfect your submission! You will be able to make changes to your entry until the 11th May 2021.
We recommend putting place holders in your submission to take advantage of early bird, just don’t forget to put real information in your entry before entries close.
A late fee of $125 (incl. GST) will apply to entries paid after 5pm (AEST) 30th April 2021.
Life Member submissions have no submission fee and submissions for the Sir Charles McGrath Award are open to the AMI Board nominations.
CAMPAIGN CATEGORY SUBMISSION WEIGHTING
Categories are open to both B2C and B2B entrants. Judges will consider the merits of each submission taking into consideration that metrics and success factors differ between B2C and B2B marketing programs. Judges will consider the linkage between strategy, execution and outcomes achieved.
Each nomination will be judged against the following criteria – for all categories:
- The extent to which the person, team or project has reflected the intent expressed in the category descriptor
- That entries show a clear alignment between the situational analysis, strategy, actions undertaken and outcomes achieved (against set goals and objectives). Judges will allocate scores across these dimensions.
- Evidence of commercial benefits to business and/or social impact; return on marketing expenditure and/or degree of social change
- Action-ability of results, including clarity of recommendations, relevance and feasibility of marketing initiatives
- Ethical practices

SPECIAL CATEGORY SUBMISSION WEIGHTING
Each Special Category has it’s own set of criteria and we recommend looking at the category description to determine what the judges will be looking for.
CREATING YOUR ENTRY
- Read the Terms & Conditions
- Read the Submission Criteria and Weighting guides on previous tabs
- Read the category descriptors on the Awards page when you log in
- Collect evidence of research, implementation strategies, evaluations and key outcomes
- Craft your submission based on the weighting guide and category requirements
- Upload your organisations logo and campaign image
- Upload any additional links, graphics or documents to support your entry
- If part of a client or 3rd party program complete the details of the external contact person for submission approval
- Complete the details of who will be collecting the award if you win
- Complete information for trophy/certificate
- Review your entry
- Submit – make payment to ensure your entry will be judged
- You will still be able to amend your entry until 11th May 2021

CLIENT AUTHORISATION
If the award submission is on behalf of a client or part of a 3rd party program please ensure you have permission from the content owner as well as relevant contact details for a person in the organisation. This person will be contacted to provide authorisation for entry into the program prior to the submission moving into judging.
AWARDING PROCESS
Finalist Announcements
Announcement of finalists will coincide with the Marketing Excellence Experience events held across the country throughout July and August.
State and National Winners
A ceremony will be held prior to the Marketing Excellence Gala held on 14 October 2021 at Dolton House, Jones Bay Wharf in Pyrmont, Sydney to announce and award the winners of each campaign category. This will include the winners of the categories in each state – the state with the national winner will not have a State Winner.
Special Category winners will be announced during the Marketing Excellence Gala, with the Campaign of the Year winner selected from the 17 Campaign Categories.
Awarding of certificates and trophies will be as follows:
- Finalists – certificate
- State Winners – trophy
- Category Winner – trophy
- Life Members – certificate
- CMO of the Year, CPM of the Year, Sir Charles McGrath, Future Leader of the Year, Emerging Marketer of the Year – certificate
- Marketing Team of the Year, Best Marketing Agency, Campaign of the Year – trophy
Please note that there will only be National Winners for the Special Categories.
