7-Eleven Australia trials next-gen Pay & Go tech in 10 stores
7-Eleven Australia has launched a 10-store trial of its next-generation Pay & Go technology, in partnership with US checkout-free technology business Grabango.
The trial aims to provide customers with a faster shopping experience by using computer vision to allow customers to pay for their shopping with a single tap of a credit card or by using the My 7-Eleven app. The system automatically adds up the items, processes payment, and sends the receipt to the customer.
“The next generation of Pay & Go, which has been developed with our partner Grabango, is part of our commitment to trialling innovative digital capabilities to serve our customers and provide them with faster shopping experiences,” said 7-Eleven Australia General Manager-Technology and Strategy, Stephen Eyears.
Customers who have registered for the My 7-Eleven app will receive an automatic app update and simply need to accept the updated terms and conditions. Those without the app can still experience this way to pay by tapping or inserting their debit or credit cards on the Pay Station on their way out at one of the ten trial stores.
“7-Eleven Australia is an innovative retailer and, like us, has a hyperfocus on delivering convenience to its customers,” said Grabango Founder and CEO, Will Glaser. “The beauty of this latest technology is it gives shoppers the option of avoiding the need to queue at the counter to pay or to scan individual items using the My 7-Eleven Pay and Go, regardless of how many items they buy. There’s no special shelves, carts, or gates, making the next generation of Pay and Go a fast and easy way to check out.”
