GWM creates spa bath ‘carpool’ to fit Cannon Alpha Plug-in Hybrid

GWM has developed a new luxury innovation to support the launch of its Cannon Alpha Plug-in Hybrid model, introducing ‘The Carpool’ – a heated, bubbling spa bath designed to fit in the vehicle’s rear tray.

The innovation is powered entirely by the vehicle’s 37.1kWh EV battery and its vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability and is capable of heating and bubbling throughout the day, offering users a luxury escape in diverse locations.

The launch campaign for the new vehicle was handle by creative agency Thinkerbell. The agency’s Chief Creative Tinker Tom Wenborn said: “Equipped with features typically reserved for premium luxury vehicles, the Cannon Alpha Plug-in Hybrid redefines what it means to explore off the beaten track. To celebrate its forthcoming launch we thought it only fitting that we brought its cutting-edge technology to life with just one more thing… bubbles.”

The launch event for The Carpool feature was held at Burleigh Heads during the World Surf League, showcasing the vehicle’s blend of utility and luxury. The Cannon Alpha Plug-in Hybrid is marketed as a vehicle that combines robust capability with advanced technology, including what is claimed to be “class-leading plug-in technology.”

Australian professional surfer Jack Robinson was on hand to test the Cannon Alpha Plug-In Hybrid’s Carpool feature. The Carpool prototype is set to enter a new phase of research and development, with plans to create a low-cost, portable accessory for market release anticipated in late 2025.

Head of Marketing and Communications at GWM, Steve Maciver, said: “GWM’s new Cannon Alpha Plug-in Hybrid is the perfect embodiment of our promise, ‘Go With More’. It’s an amazing combination of the tough capability needed on and off Australian roads and innovative technology, with class leading plug-in technology allowing users to power external appliances (such as the GWM CarPool).”
