Macca’s kicks off footy season with star-studded campaign via DDB
McDonald’s Australia has kicked off a new campaign to mark the return of the Rugby League season, leveraging its partnership with the sports code across a number of star-studded spots.
The campaign, crafted by DDB Sydney, showcases footy personalities getting their Macca’s fix in various scenarios, such as Mitch Moses feeding a hungry scrum, Sam Thaiday commenting on his ‘huge hit’ of coffee, and Ricky Stuart participating in a ‘post-meal’ press conference. The campaign is voiced by legendary league commentator, Ray Warren.
Among the other sporting stars featured in the campaign are Kezie Apps, Reuben Cotter, Jai Arrow, ‘Fletch’ and ‘Hindy’, and Wally Lewis. The campaign aims to highlight the close ties between Macca’s and the footy community, showing that win or lose, Macca’s is a gathering place for fans.
“We know how much our customers love footy, and we are proud to provide a place for fans to meet before or after a game. Win or lose, we’ll always be there for fans and this campaign is the perfect expression of that,” said McDonald’s Director of Marketing, Amanda Nakad.
The campaign was launched last week and will be featured across broadcast TV, online video, out-of-home, paid social, digital, and in-stadium. This wide-reaching campaign is set to further cement Macca’s position as a key player in the footy community.
“It’s amazing the people who show up at Macca’s after the game. In this latest spot, Wally, Ricky, Ronald, and a proper dream team of league legends do a great job of helping Macca’s further build its connection with Aussie footy fans,” said DDB Executive Creative Director, Matt Chandler.
