NRMA Insurance expands partnership with Surfing Australia to boost grassroots and women’s surfing

NRMA Insurance has expanded its partnership with Surfing Australia to enhance support for grassroots and women’s surfing across the nation.

The new three-year agreement positions NRMA Insurance as the platinum partner for several key programs, including SurfGroms, Teen Groms, Seas The Day, and the RISE Women’s Program.

The partnership will see NRMA Insurance continue as the presenting partner of the Australian Boardriders Battle (ABB) Grand Final and as a supporting partner of the ABB NSW Regional Qualifiers. The collaboration aims to foster an inclusive, resilient, and thriving surfing culture in Australia.

NRMA Insurance Seas The Day is recognised as the world’s largest women’s participation surf festival, taking place annually at Kingscliff, New South Wales. The RISE Women’s Program is designed to boost female representation in surfing through club development, coaching pathways, and leadership mentoring.

SurfGroms, a national junior development program, targets children aged 5-12, focusing on surf safety and ocean respect. Meanwhile, the Teen Groms High School program assists students aged 12-16 in advancing their surfing skills and ocean awareness.

NRMA Insurance’s involvement aims to promote active lifestyles and equip young participants with essential safety skills while creating inclusive opportunities for women in surfing. There are currently over 250 boardrider clubs nationwide, with thousands of children enrolled in the SurfGroms program.

Surfing Australia, the governing body for surfing in the country, is dedicated to promoting the sport at all levels. NRMA Insurance, a trusted insurance brand in Australia, serves over 3 million Australians in protecting their assets.

“This expanded partnership marks a huge step forward for grassroots and women’s surfing in Australia. NRMA Insurance has shown they’re not just investing in events; they’re investing in people and communities. From young groms learning water safety for the first time, to women stepping into the surf community with confidence, this support is helping us build a stronger, more inclusive future for Australian surfing,” Surfing Australia CEO Chris Mater commented.

Luke Farrell, NRMA Insurance Executive Manager Partnerships and Business Excellence, added, “Our broadened partnership with Surfing Australia enables NRMA Insurance to reach new audiences and make a real impact – fostering active lifestyles and equipping young participants with vital safety skills while creating inclusive opportunities for women across the sport.”

Farrell further stated, “Surfing plays a pivotal role in building meaningful connections in local regions throughout the country, an important foundation in building stronger, safer and more resilient communities. NRMA Insurance is pleased to be able to help fuel the continued growth of the sport and the next wave of Australia’s surfing superstars.”
