What does ChatGPT remember about you?

By Bronwyn Heys, CPM | CEO, Australian Marketing Institute

This week I checked my ChatGPT memory — and it remembered quite a bit.
That I’ve led brands like McDonald’s, KFC, and MasterFoods at Mars. That I’m focused on AI, marketing transformation, and helping marketers stay commercially and professionally relevant.
It recalled past projects, tools I’ve used, and themes I return to often in strategy and leadership conversations. Plus it knew a few personal life events surprisingly too!

It was a good reminder: ChatGPT’s memory feature is now live for many users — and it’s quietly storing insights from your conversations to personalise future responses. Most people don’t even realise it’s happening.

If you’re using AI in your work (and most of us are), take a moment to:
• Check what it remembers
• Delete what you don’t want stored
• Decide what boundaries you want in place

This isn’t a warning — it’s just smart use of the tools we now rely on. Check frequently, decide if want to keep memories, but note keeping them means you don’t have to restate your context every time. ChatGPT will remember and be able to refer or use prior conversations.

How to check your memory:
Head to Settings > Personalisation > Memory in ChatGPT.

We’re all moving fast with AI — just make sure you know what it’s keeping up with.
